GURGAON: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded Rs 23 lakh as compensation to the family of the hit and run victim on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and ordered the driver and owner of the truck that caused the accident to pay the amount.
It exonerated the insurance company as the truck owner did not pay the insurance premium.
The accident took place on June 30, 2019, when the victim, truck driver Megh Singh (42), stopped on the expressway around 6.30 pm to help another truck driver fix his vehicle.
Singh and his assistant Prem Chander were driving towards Gurgaon after unloading the truck at Bilaspur Chowk near the transport company office where they worked. Singh parked the truck he was driving ahead of the damaged truck and also switched on its indicator light. Four men present at the spot tried to tie the damaged truck to Singh so that it could be taken to a workshop.
However, before they could finish, a speeding container truck with a Rajasthan registration rammed into the damaged truck. All four were injured. But Singh died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
