Meta has announced new youth updates for Instagram and Facebook. The company said that people under the age of 16 (or under 18 in some countries) will have more privacy settings by default when they log in to Facebook.
This feature allows them to control who sees their friends list, tagged posts, people and lists they follow, and who can comment on their public posts. Meta said, “We prevent adults from messaging teens they aren’t connected to or from seeing teens in their People You Know profile.”

The company is testing to remove the message button on the Instagram accounts of young people who are viewed by suspicious adults. “We encourage young people to report to us after they have blocked someone, and provide safety notices and information on navigating inappropriate messages from adults,” Meta said.
After making it easy to use messaging tools, Meta saw a more than 70 percent increase in messages sent by teens in Q1 2022 compared to the previous quarter on Messenger and Instagram DMs.
