Soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on Saturday posted a message Instagram together.

The post, sponsored by Louis Vuitton, went up at around 11pm IST from social media operators in Argentina and Portugal.

“Winning is a state of mind,” read the post.

Argentina will play its first World Cup match against Saudi Arabia on November 22. Portugal, on the other hand, will face Ghana on November 24.

Portugal face Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, where Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi lock horns with each other.

The World Cup stage is set for a final showdown between two of the best footballers of a generation – and to many, the greatest duo of all time.

This year’s tournament in Qatar will give Messi and Ronaldo one last chance to win the ultimate trophy. Even with their perseverance, it is unlikely that the next tournament will come in 2026 when Messi will be 39 and Ronaldo 41.

Pele and Diego Maradona – the only two players still able to challenge Messi and Ronaldo’s supremacy in the history books – earned their reputations from their achievements in this area.

Pele won the award three times with Brazil, while Maradona led Argentina to the title in 1986 with a superb individual performance that left its mark on the tournament.

For all their genius, Argentina’s Messi and Portugal’s Ronaldo have never followed the two men they have spent their careers trying to surpass.

These were the final stages of their illustrious career, which saw them share 12 Ballon d’Or awards, nine Champions League titles, 18 league titles and many other awards. But the addition of the World Cup is the best as both players see their powers fade.
