A song competing with the BBC’s Dementia Choir was created by members of a local memory club.

Fenny Stratford and Bletchley and Aspley Guise Memory Club’s Helping Hands is for people aged 65 and over with early to moderate dementia or showing signs of dementia.

Called Someone You Know, it was created by members of the community and explains how they still enjoy talking and being inspired to relive old memories.

These words say: “Look at me, my life will gradually change from the way it was before, but I am still the same person you knew. Stay with me, remember it won’t be easy, even though I’m still someone you know.

You can hear the choir perform the carol, along with other Christmas pieces, in a special concert on December 5 at Bletchley’s Water Eaton Church Center at 3pm. The recommended entry donation is £3.

Helping Hands Clubs are run by DBS transferred volunteers who are knowledgeable about dementia and trained in prevention. They aim to provide stimulating activities that will build confidence and encourage social interaction in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

Details of these and other local support groups for people with dementia can be found here.
