WhatsApp is always adding new features to its app on different platforms to improve user experience and attract new users to the service. The app recently started experimenting with a new API for Do Not Disturb mode and a new version for Android tablets. Here’s everything we know about WhatsApp’s upcoming features.
WhatsApp users can see a new icon for missed calls due to DND mode
According to a report published by WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo on November 11, 2022, some beta testers of WhatsApp for Android (v2.22.24.17) can now access the new Do Not Disturb API. As you can see in the images shared by the publication, the new feature will display a message that says ‘Do Not Disturb muted.”
Earlier, WhatsApp did not explicitly notify users if they missed a voice or video call due to DND. While this feature is available to some beta testers, WhatsApp users can enable DND on their phones, ask a friend to call them, and then check by looking for a message.
If there is a new label printed with “Do not disturb” under the entry in the call log, the user has this feature. It’s important to note that this feature only shows users if they missed a call due to DND mode – the caller won’t know if DND is enabled on the users’ devices. Although this feature was initially rolled out to beta testers, it should be available to more users.
Android tablet users will soon get a special version of WhatsApp
According to another report by WABetaInfo, the instant messaging platform is working on WhatsApp for Android tablets. The publication shared that a version of WhatsApp is coming that will link your Android tablet to your WhatsApp account. He also informed that WhatsApp is working on a banner to announce this feature.
Although the banner is not available now, WhatsApp now has a presentation screen for WhatsApp on Android tablets. As seen in the images shared by the publication, after the user selects the ‘connected devices beta’ option, a new presentation screen appears in the connected devices section.
To make sure that users can access the feature released in beta version 2.22.24.18 of WhatsApp for Android, they need to download the latest beta update available on the Google Play Store. If it is available, after opening WhatsApp on the tablet, a QR code screen will appear and scan which users will start using WhatsApp on their Android tablet.
