Currently, WhatsApp users use the WhatsApp mobile app or WhatsApp Web to access the messaging app on their tablet. While both of these methods allow users to access WhatsApp from a tablet, they have some limitations. Using WhatsApp Web on tablets isn’t as easy as the company’s mobile or desktop apps because it depends on using a web browser. So, if the user accidentally closes the web browser, it also closes WhatsApp. WhatsApp’s mobile app is also not comfortable to use on a tablet, as the app is not optimized for the larger form factor of a tablet. Now, WABetaInfo reports that the company is working on a separate app for tablets called “Tablet for WhatsApp”. In a recent post, the blog site mentioned that WhatsApp is planning to introduce “Tablet for WhatsApp” in a future update to the WhatsApp mobile app, using an in-app banner. As for accessibility, the blog site announced that a new in-app banner will appear in the future so that more people can use WhatsApp on their tablets with a special interface.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that WhatsApp is working on an application for tablets. WABetaInfo first reported on such an application in 2017. Then earlier this year, WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart told The Verge that people have been asking for a dedicated iPad app for a long time, and the company now has the core technology needed for such an app.
“We’ve done a lot of work on the technology to support multiple devices… For this tablet app, it would be very important to be able to use the app even when your phone is on. Therefore, there is a basic technology,” he said.
