New Delhi [India]Nov 14 (ANI): Cricket has never been the same since its inception and the shortest formats introduced in the 21st century have only added to the excitement.
Furthermore, technological advancements have made the spectator experience of watching the game more engaging by incorporating it into the match itself. Even former South African cricketer AB de Villars agrees that technological improvements make the games more interesting.
De Villar made the comments after launching the first edition of The Last Man Stands (LMS) India Super Series 2023, the world’s largest amateur T20 cricket league, in India.
“It’s great to be involved as the first global ambassador for Last Man Stands. I’ve seen their innovative format grow globally at the grassroots level. It’s kept many players in the game. Technological advancements are creating LMS. With global rankings and game TV highlights with other players around the world. It’s just great to connect,” de Villiers said in the statement.
And not only the technological advancements, but the recent innovations in the rules have also made the game of cricket more attractive.
One such league, called Last Man Stands, is an 8-a-side cricket format played on a normal cricket ground that aims to increase participation, develop skills and provide amateur players with experiences normally reserved for professionals. Each player gets statistics, a world and national ranking, and a structured path to national and global events.
Wayne Grave, Founder, Last Man Stands has made it quite clear that the upcoming tournament aims to inspire ‘undiscovered’ talented and aspiring young cricket stars.
“Last Man Stands, with Global Ambassador, AB de Villiers, aims to discover the next T20 superstar! AB de Villiers calls Last Man Stands ‘…the platform of the future’. An exciting first for amateur cricket, the India Super Series, undiscovered, Aims to inspire talented and aspiring young cricket stars. A talent scout for amateur cricket,” Wayne Grave told ANI.

“The tournament is specifically designed to showcase the skills of India’s many young and upcoming amateur players, on a national and global stage. With so much great cricket talent in India, it is often challenging to see individual players, let alone be recognized outside their local communities,” he added.
“India Super Series is the only amateur organization with a platform capable of reaching a global and national audience with global streaming/broadcast, live scores, statistics and extensive coverage through social media,” concludes Wayne Grave.
According to the organizers, each squad must have at least 2 Under-21 players. Older players from each team will mentor their younger teammates. Groups of cities that have already joined, such as Kathiwadi, Gurgaon and Vasai-Virar, are already planning trials to provide this amazing opportunity to the local youth of their cities.
The innovative rules of Last Man Stands are specifically designed to enhance the skill level of each player – be it with bat, ball or field, not to mention captaincy, as it involves a lot of tricks and tactics.
Coming to some interesting rules of the India Super Series, here will be:
– Home run rule: A six off the last ball of the innings is worth 12
-Last Man Stands: The final batsman can bat himself, so play is never over until the final wicket is taken.
-Double Play: Two batsmen can be dismissed in one ball, if the game-changing fielding play can be executed.
All in all, it is shaping up to be an exciting tournament with the former South African Test captain as the global ambassador for Last Man Stands. (ANI)
