Four teenagers are accused of killing a South Carolina man “to death” after he punished them for their use of Instagram by taking over their computers, according to local reports.
Three 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old hatched a plan to kill the victim, 38-year-old Larry Ingram Jr. on November 14 after he allegedly beat two of them – a relative of his – by taking away their computers, the Charlotte Observer reported.
Investigators said Ingram disapproved of young people’s use of Instagram.
The teenagers, angry about the punishment, allegedly stabbed Ingram to his death in his Rock Hill home, Rock Hill Police Department Detective Eric Olson said in family court Tuesday, according to to exit.
The youths kicked and threw objects at Ingram’s door until he went inside his apartment, the detective said.
Once inside the house, Ingram was shot in the back and fell to the ground, where he was shot again, Olson testified.
Olson described the wound as “fatal.”
The police brought the murder weapon, a Glock pistol, wrapped in clothes and hidden in the nearby woods.
The teenagers were arrested hours after the fatal shooting, and each was charged with murder and attempted murder. Since their arrest, they have been in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Child Services.
Three of the four appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday, where Family Court Judge Kimaka Nichols-Graham ordered them to remain in custody, according to the Observer.
Prosecutors have asked the court to try the three teenagers as adults.
