An Illawarra court is said to have heard that Farmer Wants Wife star Sam Messina he allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend with a phone charger. The woman claims that he also hit her in the face, causing her to bleed from her nose every month when she sneezes, among other outrageous allegations.
According to Daily Telegraph, Messina’s ex-girlfriend told the court that the couple’s relationship was full of abuse and threats. She also claims she was physically abused four times throughout 2019.
The woman said Messina threw her to the ground in July 2019, then allegedly punched her in the face. He claims for the next month, every time he sneezes his nose bleeds.
The court heard Messina threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend’s rabbits.
He denied four counts of assault but admitted two counts of threatening.
The woman said she found the courage to report the alleged abuse in February 2021.
According to Daily Telegrapha sergeant Ben Bragger he told the court that the delay in time from the alleged assault to the officer’s report should not undermine the woman’s credibility.
“Women who are victims of domestic violence have many good reasons for not reporting things immediately, they are ashamed, embarrassed and don’t want their lives to be examined,” she said.
“He had the courage to report (the allegations) after his safety was compromised … enough was enough and he felt he had to go to the police.”
Messina maintains that a physical attack never happened.
His lawyer Ed Anderson said there was no reason for Messina’s girlfriend to continue living with him after they broke up because he “beat her non-stop”.
“He had no reason to live in a violent home and he did so voluntarily in circumstances where he could have left at any time,” said his lawyer. Ed Anderson.
