Reece James gave his Jose Mourinho attention as he focused on Ivan Toney’s double against Manchester City.

The Brentford star, who was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup, scored twice at the Etihad Stadium in a shock 2-1 win for the Bees.

Brentford striker Toney responded to missing out on the World Cup squad by scoring twice against Manchester City.

The perfect response from the striker, who took to social media after the match where he posted a picture of himself with his fingers in his ears.

James was quick to post on Toney’s Instagram post, in which he copied Mourinho’s words he used after Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa in March 2014.

He simply said: “If I talk I’m in trouble.”

Like Toney, James was left out of Southgate’s 26-man squad for Qatar after picking up a knee injury.

But the Blues’ right-back looks set to be disappointed with the absence of injured Kyle Walker and the return of Kalvin Phillips.

James liked a tweet on Twitter in which Paul Merson asked why Southgate had not named the former Wigan number one.

Merson said: “Is it strange that Gareth Southgate is willing to gamble on Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker but not Reece James?

“If it’s Harry Kane, he goes – what’s the difference?”

Toney responded with his three Lions following his impressive display alongside Pep Guardiola.

He told BT Sport: “The only thing is to do well, work hard, do well for the team and know what’s going to happen.

“Of course, it’s sad, but I know what I can do and I won’t let it get me down.

“I’m still going and doing well for Brentford.

“My motivation is the boys in the dressing room and the fans.

“We’ll do our best, that’s all we can do.”
