Rajkummar Rao is now a successful film star, earning crores of rupees for his films. But Raj had a middle-class upbringing in Gurgaon before entering the world of cinema. In a recent interview, Rajkumar talked about his first earnings, which he got while still in middle school, and how he used that money to buy things for the family. Rajkumar was born and raised in Gurgaon, where his father worked in the government sector. During his school days, Rajkumar not only learned and performed dance, but also taught it. This became his first source of income.
In a video shared by Netflix India, Rajkumar told comedian Zakir Khan, “I still remember doing martial arts, taekwondo. I was a national level gold medalist. But then dance also came into my life. We had a group and we danced on stage. Then, I started giving dance lessons. My first income was in class VIII, when I taught dance to a little girl at her home. I would have ₹300 for this.
The prince then revealed what he did with his first earnings. “When I earned my first 300, I also bought groceries for the house. I bought pulses, rice and sugar in small quantities. Then, I went home and gave it (to my parents). No matter how much you earn or do in life that feeling will never come back. You can gift anything you want to anyone but pay the price for that thing ₹300 was a great feeling to my mother.”
Rajkummar made his Bollywood debut in 2010 with a small role in the film Raan and later that year was noticed in a major role in the film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. His 2012 film Shahid won him the National Award. Mainstream popularity eventually came his way with the success of films like Kai Po Che, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Wife. Her latest film Monica, O My Darling is released on Netflix this Friday.
