The members of OMEGA X have shared a group message after launching a new Instagram account that is not under the control of their agency.
Last month, one of OMEGA X’s fans reported on Twitter that they saw the CEO of the group’s agency, SPIRE Entertainment, beating the members after their concert in Los Angeles. The fan also posted an audio recording of the CEO yelling at the group.
As the fan’s report gained attention online, others began to come forward with their own accounts of the CEO’s violent behavior, with some suggesting that similar stories had already circulated about a woman who verbally abuse gang members in Chile.
SPIRE Entertainment released a statement initially saying that OMEGA X and the agency had “resolved all their doubts,” and the CEO also denied any wrongdoing in a phone call with SBS News. However, in the same report, SBS News aired video footage of the incident in Los Angeles captured in an audio recording by a whistleblowing activist, which appears to contradict the CEO’s claims.
After the controversy grew, SPIRE Entertainment canceled the flights of the CEO and all the members of OMEGA X to Korea, because there was a lot of concern for the safety of the idols. However, in the end the members of OMEGA X were able to return to the country after paying for the new flights out of pocket with their own funds.
On November 6, OMEGA X broke their silence to talk more about the situation and their careers. After opening a new Instagram account not affiliated with SPIRE Entertainment, the group’s 11 members released a joint statement thanking fans for their support and touching on their plans for the future.
OMEGA X—a project group comprised entirely of idols who had already started in other groups (many of whom had left)—also showed why the story took so long. According to the idols, they had to be careful because they had previously signed an agreement “under duress” stating that they would bear “civil and criminal liability” if they read the on social media without the permission of their institution.
