Instagram Gives You The Ability To Add Music To Still Image Posts | Tech Reddy

Instagram has added the ability to add music to still photo posts, providing another way to incorporate music into the IG experience.

Instagram explained:

“Music is an important part of sharing on Instagram, and we’re excited to provide the ability to add music to Feed photo posts, just like you do with Videos and Stories. Whatever it is the format that best tells your story, you can add a soundtrack to your favorite photo moments to bring them to life.”

As you can see in the image above, you will see a new ‘Add Music’ section in the post composer flow, where you can search for a track to add to your photo post. You can choose between 5 and 90 seconds of music to use, to provide additional context and/or atmospheric elements to your post.

It seems a little… unfair, maybe?

I mean, I already know, TikTok has seen great success by introducing music, it’s important to introduce features, but it gives you more creative options for your IG posts.

But, like, it’s like that. Need some music? Does it enhance your reading?

I think there are some creative and exciting cases where it’s a bit less thought out between different Instagram posts and tools that are being developed. But according to Instagram, there are also music videos for Videos and Stories, so the addition of photo posts may not be a huge development leap.

Even for branded use, it will be limited. While you’re limited to the music you can use in Videos and Stories, brands can use licensed tracks from Meta’s Sound Collection for their photo soundtracks.

It might not be so bad, there might be a way to use these sounds to create more engaging posts, which are linked to evolving usage behaviors (ie sound).

Instagram has added a variety of music options over the past year, including share music in DM and music-related AR effects. It’s also testing music on user profiles – like MySpace – but there’s no official word on this yet.

Also, music is a big part of the TikTok experience, so it’s surprising to see Instagram developing music features.
