How to tell you’ve got Instagram spam

In general, it is easy to understand about Instagram spam, because it is something that you did not expect to receive and do not really want. Often, these messages are trying to sell you something, either verbally or metaphorically. Here are three telltale signs you’ve encountered Instagram spam:

The message is trying to sell you something

First of all, most spam accounts on Instagram exist for one reason and one reason only: To sell you something. If you receive an ad that contains an offer to buy something, it is definitely spam.

You want to go to a website

Even if there is no point of sale, if the message has a link to an external site, it may be spam. Accounts are only used to drive traffic to websites that are hard, dirty, insecure, or malicious. Of course, it’s a bad idea to reject a link in an Instagram message from someone you don’t know.

The account has a low quality profile

Advertisers have to create a lot of accounts, and often don’t put much effort into creating a page. Spam accounts are not the same as accounts from real people because they don’t have high quality profile pictures or pictures borrowed from stock photo services. You may notice that the account has no bio, no meaningful links, as well as few posts and few or no followers.

How to block Instagram spam

If you’re tired of blowing up spam in your Instagram inbox, here are some things you can do to slow the flow of spam into your account or stop it.

Block spam accounts

Keep your wallet private

You can also make your budget more difficult to find followers. By default, your account is public and your posts may appear to all Instagram users, making it easy for followers to target you. But you can be independent of your wallet. If you do, your account will be more difficult to find – your authorized users will see your posts. It’s not a perfect solution, because private accounts still appear in Instagram search results, so fans can find them and send you messages.

If you want to go it alone, click your account icon at the bottom of the Instagram app and tap the three-line menu at the top of the page. In the pop-up menu, tap Identificationthen Privacy. Switch on Private account by swiping the button to the right and confirming that you want to do this in the pop-up window by rubbing Switch to private.

Do not accept message requests

The final solution, and the most effective, is to disable all messaging applications. The disadvantage of this method is that you cannot receive messages from anyone, but it can be useful if you receive a lot of spam messages.

To activate this feature, type your account icon at the bottom of the Instagram app and tap the three-line menu at the top of the page. In the pop-up menu, tap Identificationthen Privacy. Tap Messages. In the Possible connections section at the top of the page, type Your followers on Instagram. In the Send requests to section, type Do not receive requests and confirm the change by typing Update Settings.
