(Pocket Lint) – The 2022 World Cup has officially kicked off with hosts Qatar taking on Ecuador – the first time a host nation has lost its opening match. But even though it’s one of the weirdest, most contested tournaments, there’s plenty to be excited about with more than a month of football action ahead.

And what better way to get into the spirit of it than by helping your team do well with a fun little game to play on mobile?

To celebrate the World Cup, Google has created an in-browser penalty shootout minigame that you can not only play to pass the time, but support your home country (or host qualifying team) in the process. Here’s how.

How to play Google Mini Cup on your phone or tablet

Available only for mobile phones and tablets (requires a touchscreen to swipe), Google’s Mini Cup game is played in a browser and tasks you with scoring consecutive penalties until you miss one. To make it more difficult, the goalkeeper gets faster after each goal.

However, when you play to actually start the World Cup matches instead of trying to collect the best total and beat your high score every time, your score will be added to the world total for your chosen team. This adds up to the final whistle of the actual match to give your team a point. Then you can see the general status of all states.

Here’s how to participate.

Open your mobile browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.), go to Google, and type “.World Cup“in the search bar.
