Find out how you can use 3D avatars on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram

With their close focus on the ‘metaverse’, Meta has revolutionized new interactive features to allow users to dive deeper into the virtual world. Announced earlier this year, Meta’s 3D avatar feature is one example – users can create an animated avatar of themselves for Meta platforms such as Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. These avatars, which look like the user, can be used at the moment in Facebook, Messenger and Instagram attachments, with information about new updates. If you’ve ever wanted to try your personal 3D avatar, here’s how to create one for Facebook and Instagram.

It’s on Facebook

On your phone, go to the Facebook app. Click on the right side of the main menu, and it will show your current profile picture. Clicking there will take you to a number of options. Scroll down to find ‘See more’. Click on it.

For all the latest news, follow the Google Daily Star News channel.

After clicking on ‘See more’, you will find the ‘Avatars’ section. It is very clear from there. Follow the prompts that will allow you to adjust the skin tone, face shape, clothes, and other things that affect the way you look. You can also create your avatar to do a pose that you can share on your Facebook feed.

After creating the avatar, you will have the opportunity to check the attachments included, as well as the avatar emojis, which you can add to your Facebook posts / official updates. You can also edit the avatar as you want later from the ‘Avatar’ option itself.

On Instagram

On your phone, go to the Instagram app. In the main menu, click on your profile picture that appears in the bottom right. From your profile, click on the three line icon. From there, click Settings, then Accounts.

From here, you will see the ‘Avatar’ option. Click on it and if you have a 3D avatar on your Facebook page, you will be asked if you want to use the same avatar on Instagram. If you choose yes, the avatar will be synced across your Facebook and Instagram profiles.

If you choose not, you will be asked to create a new avatar. The steps are the same as before – choose a skin tone, hairstyle, clothes, body shape, style, etc. Click Finish and save the changes to confirm your new Instagram avatar.

After you have successfully created your own 3D avatar, you can use it for emojis set in the form of a sticker whenever talking about a message. To use it, go to the post you want to talk about.

With the ‘write a comment’ option, you’ll find icons for gifs, emojis and an additional option to ‘comment with an avatar sticker’. Click on that and a new menu will pop up with your avatar showing various information.

Click on one of the plugins you want to use, and it will automatically be added to that post as your comment.

On your Messenger, go to the conversation where you want to use the avatar. On a chat, click on the video icon or icon, and various options for attachments and emojis will appear. Click on the contact icon, to the right of the star icon on the far right.

You’ll see a smaller menu in the bottom-most section, and right next to the search icon on the far right, you should find your 3D avatar. Click on it, and you can access the stickers where your 3D avatar is.

How to use 3D avatars on Instagram

Like Facebook and Messenger, you can use your 3D avatar in messages and conversations on Instagram. However, you can use the avatar in your Instagram stories.

To do so, click on the sticker icon at the top of your screen whenever you post an Instagram story. From there, click on Avatar and choose the sticker you want.

You can change and modify the avatar attachment as you wish. When you’re done, click on your message to send the message with your avatar sticker.
