On Saturday, singer and popular teen star Aaron Carter died, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

Aaron’s was a staple for many millennials growing up, with hits like “I Want Candy” and “Aaron’s Party.”

But he was also known for his relationship with another teenage icon, Hilary Duff. In 2001, Aaron made a guest appearance Lizzie McGuireand soon after, the two started dating.

This was important for teenagers and young adults in the 2000s – considering Hilary and Aaron were the leading figures at the time.

But as Aaron got older, he began to struggle with alcohol abuse and mental health issues.

Well, after hearing about Aaron’s death, Hilary shared an emotional Instagram post about Aaron. “I’m so sorry that life is so hard for you and you have to fight it out in the world,” Hilary wrote.

“You’re so beautiful,” he continued. “Boy I loved you so much.”
