Del Toro said he’s “starting to learn how to use” Instagram with his first post — though he hasn’t given up on Twitter yet.
Horror fantasy master Guillermo Del Toro has officially made his Instagram debut.
After the proposed changes at Twitter by the new owner Elon Musk, the social media platform has seen a great journey. The creator of “Cabinet of Curiosities” Del Toro decided to join Instagram, although for now, he still maintains his Twitter presence.
“Hi- I’m on INSTAGRAM now- just starting to learn how to use it…I’m ‘gdtreal,'” Del Toro said, citing his handle. “Be patient. Only 1 photo, this time…Come to me, if you want…”
The first photo shared by Del Toro is captioned: “Bleak House 1.” The filmmaker is not verified as published.
Tesla CEO Musk officially bought Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion. Trading of Twitter shares was halted on October 4 following reports that Musk was moving forward with the sale on agreed terms. According to Bloomberg News, Musk wrote a letter to Twitter offering to confirm the deal at $54.20 per share.
Twitter sued Musk earlier this year after the Tesla CEO backed a sales offer in July. Musk withdrew from the contract after Twitter accused him of failing to prove that less than five percent of active users had spam accounts and bots.
Musk confirmed to CNN that “a lot of big advertisers have stopped spending money on Twitter” since the acquisition was finalized. Among the divisions, the proposed platform changes include the $8 monthly subscription fee model.
Del Toro’s fellow horror star Stephen King opposed the idea of a pay-to-play model, tweeting, “Fuck that, they have to pay me. If it’s resolved, I’ll be like Enron…It’s not the money, but the purpose of it.”
King later wrote, “Musk thinks of Tom Sawyer, who was given the task of cleaning the fence as a punishment. Tom encourages his friends to do things for him and pays them for the favor. That’s what Musk wants from Twitter. No, no, no.”
In a TED talk earlier this year, Musk said he hopes to make the proprietary algorithm “open source.” The Tesla manager was next tweeted “Social media policies are good if 10% on the left and right are not happy.”
