Passengers were asked to give their opinion on how the introduction of 30 electric buses will work.

Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, said that $50,000 has been saved in fuel costs since the vehicles began operating on the island in April.

The minister said he was happy with the initial reports regarding electric buses, but wanted feedback from users.

He said: “The Ministry of Transport is committed to building a sustainable, fully electric transport infrastructure that is safe for the environment.

“The buses have been in operation for over six months and have saved the Department of Public Transport approximately $50,000 in fuel costs.

“These savings do not include maintenance costs, which are expected to save almost half compared to diesel buses.

“We are happy with the initial reports, and now we want to hear from the public their views on electric buses.

“The Ministry of Transport looks forward to working with stakeholders to prepare the transition to a full fleet of electric buses by 2030 and the gradual elimination of the sale and import of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035 “.

Bermuda’s electric buses were manufactured by the Golden Dragon Bus Company in China and were delivered in three batches.

People who want to comment on the bus can do so via www.forum.gov.bm until December 30.
