Google brings large-screen optimization to the Search app on Galaxy tablets | Tech Reddy

We recently reported on how Google is working to better support large-screen devices like tablets and flip phones. It adds drag-and-drop improvements and full mouse support to a bunch of Google Workspace apps. Now, Google has added improved tablet support to the Google Search app.

The latest Google app beta version 13.46 introduces a navigation rail on the left side of the home page. This allows you to see more content in your Google Discover feed and search results. The Google Search app navigation rail is useful for users using Samsung Galaxy or other brands of tablets. Unfortunately, the navigation rail does not include the Material You MD3 redesign.

The icons on the Google Search navigation rail — Discovery, Search, and Collections — don’t yet use the pill-shaped indicator. The current tab is highlighted in blue, not gray. The three icons are placed where you would normally place your thumb and not at the top, bottom, or even center.

The advantage of this new Google Search navigation bar is that it gives you access to the main navigation bar available on large-screen devices such as tablets. In general, additional changes and optimizations are required, such as Material Biz icons. As 9To5Google points out, the Google Weather app was recently updated with similar changes. Previously, it only supported working in portrait mode.

According to rumors, Google is expected to launch the Pixel tablet in 2023 and it will be the main competition for Samsung. The company is also expected to announce a “Pro” model of the Pixel tablet that will compete with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. So, all this optimization and adjustment for tablets will help.
