The Archdiocese Committee on Military Services Catholic Scouts has designed the Father Capodanno Action Patch in honor of Father Vincent Capodanno, a Staten Island and US Navy chaplain who died in the Vietnam War in 1967.

A circular patch bearing Father Capodanno’s name and image is awarded to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as members of two youth service organizations, the Daughters of American Heritage and those who successfully complete the St. George Troop Combine. activities and requirements.

Activities include researching the life of Father Capodanno and writing an essay about his influence.

According to the archdiocese, the idea behind Father Capodanno’s patch of events is three-fold — to raise awareness of the role of chaplains as military servicemen, to encourage learning more about service and leadership through his life, and to support the priesthood and military chaplains. profession.
