On Saturday, 50 students of two schools in Assam’s Charaideo district fell ill after consuming iron-folic acid (IFA) tablets provided by Health Department officials, official sources said.
The students were taken to Sonari Civil Hospital where they were treated and later discharged home.
According to officials, a team of health workers from Batau Sub Center under Patsaku Block Primary Health Center distributed IFA tablets to 75 students of Heranipatar Lower Primary School and 26 students of Nimalia Lower Primary School.
Tablets were distributed in the presence of teachers, and children were advised not to drink on an empty stomach.
After some time, the medical team received information from the school management that two children from each school were vomiting and had stomach pains.
”They were immediately taken to Sonari Civil Hospital for further medical intervention. Later, another 48 children were taken to the hospital for examination.
According to the statement of the Department of Health, the situation is being closely monitored.
IFA tablets are provided by the government as iron-folic acid supplements to children.
