RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is set to take center stage as the global fashion industry gathers in Riyadh for a major international conference.

Leading regional and global figures will discuss key issues of the sector such as sustainability, entrepreneurship, diversity and culture, and innovation during the three-day Fashion Futures conference.

The event also provides a showcase for Saudi designers and brands to display and sell their products.

And the conference runs alongside the Moda Fabrics Expo, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to sustainable sources.

Organized by the Saudi Fashion Commission, the annual conference will take place from November 17 to 19 at City Hub, a non-profit city of Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It will feature speakers, industry influencers, retail activations and pop-up events, as well as panel discussions, networking, Q&A, masterclass sessions and an indoor street party.

To promote the importance of education, learning and global exchange, the commission has collaborated with several partners and creative people to organize special master classes and discussions.

Abdullah Abo Milhim, professor at the Italian design school Istituto Marangoni, will hold a master class on the business side of fashion, focusing on market development, innovation trends, digital transformation, supply chains and merchandising.

One of the event’s partners, Chalhoub Group, will present a workshop organized by The Greenhouse to support emerging local talent, centering the group’s initiatives on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Other workshops include a visual merchandising and brand content development masterclass aimed at industry players offered by Accademia Costume and Moda, an award-winning family-run Italian fashion school.

And a fashion stylist, a senior executive and a political image consultant share their experiences on creating a personal brand.

Meanwhile, thousands of sustainable, commercially available and interactive textiles will be showcased at the Fashion Fabrics Expo, along with newly developed innovative materials that incorporate cutting-edge technologies.

The expo aims to positively impact the fashion industry locally and globally.

Burak Cakmak, Chief Executive Officer of the Fashion Commission, said: “Future of Fashion is an opportunity for Saudi Arabia to bring together the global fashion community to promote sustainability, entrepreneurship, diversity and culture and innovation.

“We put innovations in the focus of the conference this year, textile innovations are the main topic. Creating future opportunities for all, industry experts share their expertise and sustainability-based solutions.

“Unlocking the opportunities for cleaner, greener solutions will require buy-in from consumers, industry and government, which will help achieve initiatives like the future of fashion.”

The Fashion Commission, which is one of the 11 industry commissions under the Ministry of Culture, supports the development of the Kingdom’s fashion industry.

Founded in 2020, it is responsible for many networking initiatives such as Saudi 100 Brands, which operates in New York and Milan.
