Mumbai/Goa, November 11, 2022: Sunday, November 13 marks a special occasion for FC Goa forward Alvaro Vazquez as he takes the field for the Orange in his first game against his former club, Kerala Blasters. Football-crazy conditions after the Covid-induced 2021/22 season played in a bubble.

After leading the Blasters to their first final in six seasons, the Spaniard was a cult hero in the state, but when he returned, his mind was firmly set on walking away with all three points. And while he remains grateful for the love he received in Kerala, Vazquez doesn’t want his former club’s respect to be mistaken for insecurity.

“Blasters fans are great people. But the objective, once the game starts, is always the same – to get the three points,” the 31-year-old said on Thursday when asked about his move to the home of his former club.

“Well, it’s football, isn’t it? Sometimes we go our separate ways. And now, as an FC Goa player, my aim is to give my best for my team.

“I am happy to meet all of them. I have always enjoyed the love and support of Kerala Blasters fans, so this will be my chance to thank them.”

He is now fully fit after recovering from injury
A nagging injury means the eloquent forward has been frustrated – logging just 100 minutes in two appearances so far, defeats to Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC. And with FC Goa having won 3 of their first 4 without much influence from the Spaniard, the Goa faithful await Vazquez’s return as they look to hit top gear.

“I had a hamstring problem before the second game, I haven’t fully recovered until now. It wasn’t my best start but it’s all in the past, I’m here and I’m ready,” said the striker. “It’s a special game, and I’m happy and motivated to do well.”

In Kochi, Vazquez and co. Around 200 FC Goa fans will be supported, traveling to the city to watch the game from away locations. The former Spain U20 international praised the support in his farewell message.

“Firstly, thanks to our fans for making the trip and supporting us at the stadium. Secondly, we want to give them victory and continue to fight for the highest honor,” he signed off.
