The FBI says that in 2020, there were 314 robberies for every 100,000 people nationwide. However, in three Illinois cities, that number was much higher.
That same year, more than a million thefts were reported from coast to coast, and most of them occurred in residential areas. Contrary to what you might think, most of these thefts took place during the day instead of at night.
Home security systems, a well-lit home and the use of surveillance cameras can deter some people from breaking into your place, but others are still rolling the dice with break-ins.

According to a piece on TheCenterSquare.com, Hot Springs, Arkansas led the nation in burglaries in 2020, with more than 1,200 break-ins reported. That’s almost 4 times the national average.
Next on the list is Lake Charles, Louisiana with 1,066, and in 3rd place is Alexandria, Louisiana with 1,019. Fourth place in the nation goes to Jonesboro, Arkansas, where they had 1,003.
The fifth most burled city in America is in Illinois, and it is the childhood home of Dick Van Dyke
if you scream”It must be Danville!“congratulations. You really know a lot about robbing places and maybe a little too much about Dick Van Dyke.
- Danville, at number 5 on the FBI’s list of the worst cities, had 880 burglaries in 2020.
- Decatur, Illinois takes 15th place with 677.
- And the third Illinois city to make the list (at #22) is, coincidentally, the home of Illinois state government, Springfield. Springfield reported 612 thefts per 100,000 people.
