26-year-old man who pawned fake gold for bank loan, arrested | Tech Reddy

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The MP Nagar police on Friday, arrested a youth who tried to pawn fake gold jewelery (imitation) for a loan in a bank.

The 26-year-old accused, identified as Mahendra Kumar, a native of Sirsa district of Haryana approached Federal Bank in MP Nagar for a gold loan.

Federal Bank branch manager Krishnakanth Ode lodged a complaint with the police that Mahendra had pawned gold imitation jewelery at the branch to get a loan. The manager said in his complaint, Mahendra pawned 4 gold bangles and a mangalsutra, which was claimed to be worth around 130 grams and worth Rs 6.5 lakh.

For name and address proof, Mahendra has given copies of Aadhaar card and PAN card, which mentions his residence in Huzur Bhopal. However, during verification, the Aadhaar as well as the PAN card were found to be invalid. If the bank manager gets suspicious, he informs the police.

When the police asked for the bill for the gold ornaments, the youth claimed that he was not carrying anything as he had come to the bank in a hurry as he needed cash for the treatment of his ailing wife.

When inquiring about the hospital where the wife has been admitted, the youths start taking names of public and private hospitals. When the police became suspicious, he was taken to the police station. During interrogation, the man said that he was a resident of Gurgaon in Haryana and that someone else had given him the jewelery after he updated his Aadhaar. The police registered a case against him under sections 420, 511 of the IPC. Further investigation is underway.
