GURUGRAM: Underpasses, flyovers, subways and foot bridges built on the Gurugram-Delhi Expressway in the last five years have become a bone of contention within the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAIBoth organizations refused to maintain the facility.

At the request of the state government, we constructed them on cost sharing basis. But the government has not been able to pay the expenses incurred in the construction of these facilities. We are not in a position to incur more financial or capital expenditure for the maintenance of these facilities.”
Furthermore, the fault-with-liability period, during which we used to maintain them, has also ended. “So, as far as we are concerned, the facilities have been handed over to the GMDA on September 1 and we have also written to them in this regard,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the GMDA took up the matter in its core planning cell meeting (CPC) on Tuesday, where the CEO decided to seek a policy decision on the matter from the state government. “The CEO has directed us to write to the Public Works Department (PWD), requesting them to raise the issue with the NHAI and take a policy decision from the state government in this regard. We will go by the government’s decision,” said a senior GMDA official briefed on the matter.
“If any immediate repairs are required, we will get it done while keeping the GMDA in the loop and recovering the cost from them,” the NHAI official said.
