To quench our hunger for an electric bike made in India, Ultraviolette has finally introduced the F77. Its performance can compete with other ICE models like KTM RC 390, BMW G 310 R and TVS Apache RR 310. Here’s how the four sports bikes fare against each other.

When it comes to performance you really can’t compare an ICE and an EV because of the different power delivery methods. But say about the issue you’re making, for the heck of it, what would you look for first – top speed?

So, in terms of speed, the numbers given below are the company’s claims.

BMW G 310 R

TVS Apache RR 310

160km/h (claimed)

It’s clear that the Ultraviolette F77 can keep up with its petrol-powered siblings when it comes to top speed. And yes, it is also the fastest electric motorcycle in India.

While the Ultraviolette F77’s acceleration figures are claimed, the numbers of other bikes are tested by ZIgWheels staff. And from what can be seen above, the F77 is fast, no doubt, but unfortunately not the fastest of the lot. The 197 kg weight of the F77 certainly plays a role in its refinement, although the motor produces a maximum torque of 95Nm from the start.

Now, it’s clear that the F77 doesn’t have the longest range among its peers. However, it would be the cheapest because of the cost of electricity compared to gasoline, right?

However, this is offset by a high initial outlay, which is expensive. The Ultraviolette Recon is priced at Rs 4,55,000 (ex-showroom), and is not even eligible for the FAME II subsidy. On the other hand, the KTM RC 390 is priced at Rs 3,16,070, the TVS Apache RR 310 carries a price tag of Rs 2,65,000 and the BMW G 310 R is priced at Rs 2,75,000 (all ex-showroom Delhi).

To sum up, the claimed figures of the Ultraviolette F77 seem good enough to go up against a 300-400cc performance bike. However, it comes with a hefty asking price. But that’s not surprising considering EV technology is still in its infancy, and over time, costs will eventually come down.

Stay tuned to ZigWheels for an in-depth performance review of the Ultraviolette F77, as we’ll be riding it soon.
