TVS Motor Co awards £1.5 million to new Engineering Chair at Warwick University | Tech Reddy

WMG, University of Warwick, a leading research and education group in the UK, received a gift of 1.5 million pounds from TVS Motor Co of India that will help create a new professorship at the university, Stuart Croft, professor and Vice-Chancellor. of the university, told ET in a communication.

The new chair will be named the ‘Lord Bhattacharyya Chair in Engineering Education’ to continue the legacy of the late Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Britain’s first industrial professor, who founded WMG in 1980 to help businesses innovate.

This gift will help to strengthen the skills of this group in development studies and teaching in engineering and production internationally, said Croft, who was on his first visit to the country with the aim of encouraging support for former students and friends of this university.

Warwick has a close network of over 5,500 students in India.

The new Chair will advance innovations in research-led teaching and scholarship. “Lord Bhattacharyya has played an important role in building the relationship between India and the UK. The recruit will be responsible for establishing links between UK higher education and WMG in Asia, particularly in India and Hong Kong,” Croft said.

This will include new ways to encourage young people from various backgrounds to pursue a career in engineering through the WMG Academies for Young Engineers, postgraduate apprenticeships, and professional skills programs offered by the WMG Skills Centre, as well as the opportunity to explore new opportunities in higher education. in general.
