The Amazon Fire HD 8 is far from being the best tablet in the world, but if you’re looking to get your kid a cheap gadget, it’s definitely worth considering thanks to this year’s Black Friday deals.
When you buy this tablet, you get a solid device with a wide range of entertainment and educational apps and services. It’s small, portable, just eight inches in size and has an HD screen, USB-C charging, and 2MP on the front and another on the back.
But it has several drawbacks. It’s locked into the Amazon ecosystem, not Android or Google Play, so the selection of apps and games is limited; HD screen is very low quality; and the model we listed above will have ads on the lock screen (which helps keep its price down). Additionally, the cheapest model only comes with 32GB of storage, which isn’t much (and the larger 64GB model isn’t much better).
But as a young person’s first gadget and a device that will give them digital independence (with parental controls), it’s a great device to pick up at a very low price on Black Friday.
