Huawei has dropped the price of the Intel Core i5 version, which comes with a foldable and removable keyboard, from £999 to £600, and is throwing in a backpack with an RRP of £130 to sweeten the deal.

We reviewed the MateBook E for a starting price of £999 and praised its display, cameras and the keyboard that comes with the model we’re highlighting here, giving it a five-star rating and a Recommended award.
Let’s talk about that gorgeous display first. It’s a 12.6-inch 2560 x 1600 resolution OLED panel and ambient light detector that senses direct sunlight and can achieve peak brightness of 600cd/m2 when High Brightness mode is enabled. Coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts is excellent, as is the accuracy of color reproduction in those gamuts.
The Core i5 chipset powering the MateBook E causes some thermal issues, but the device’s fans are efficient and virtually silent, and performance is good enough to handle general productivity tasks with relative ease. It’s no surprise that you won’t be doing any serious gaming on the MateBook E, but if this is your bag, a bit of casual mobile gaming isn’t out of the question.
When it comes to photography and videography, the MateBook E is quite capable. The 8MP webcam can shoot videos at up to 1080p at 60fps, while the 12.6MP rear camera can record in 4K at 30fps and has a usable flash.
A single USB-C port, average battery life, and lack of a memory card slot kept the MateBook E from earning our Best Buy award, but these relatively minor flaws are easily overlooked at this new Black Friday price.
An Intel Core i3 model is also on offer and will set you back £450 from the £600 original price. Huawei is bundling it with its smart magnetic keyboard and the backpack that comes with the i5 model, both very welcome additions.
