New Delhi, November 15 (IANS): Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old patent holder, who duped people on Instagram by offering free and high-priced Apple iPhones.

The accused has been identified as Manish Tiwari, a resident of Bikaner in Rajasthan.

The police said that last year, Tiwari was also a victim of online fraud when he was duped in a similar manner.

According to Sagar Singh Kalsi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), a complaint was received at the Cyber ​​North police station through the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). said the complainant after seeing the iPhone 13 offer at the lowest price. an Instagram page, he connected the person through the WhatsApp link given on the page.

“He talked about the WhatsApp call about sending iPhone devices. After this, the suspect ordered him to deposit 30 percent of the price in a bank account,” he said. said the officer.

After some time, the suspect asked her for more money before the products were delivered. So the victim deposited a sum of Rs 1,77,800 and when he insisted on depositing, he was informed that additional payment would be required for the deposit.

“The accused then misbehaved, after which the accused blocked his mobile number. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Police Code and an investigation is underway,” said the DCP.

Through financial and technical analysis, the police targeted the accused and on November 14, Tiwari was arrested from Bikaner.

In an interview, he said he was cheated through a similar scheme last year. Therefore, he created a plan to scam people using a similar method of selling Apple phones and accessories online to make quick money.

“He used fake SIM cards bought from West Bengal through Telegram links,” said the official.
