Samsung’s rapid One UI 5 release pace continues

Since releasing One UI 5 for the Galaxy S22 series in late October, Samsung has updated several of its devices to the latest Android release. This includes the Galaxy S21 family, S20 series, Z Fold 4, Flip 4 and the budget-oriented Galaxy A53. After Google, OnePlus was the first company to roll out Android 13 to its flagship phone this year, but the Korean giant has been quicker to roll out the update to a wider range of devices in its lineup. After phones, Samsung is now updating one of the best Android tablets of 2022, the Galaxy Tab S8 series, to One UI 5.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra 5G variants are getting the latest One UI release with the BVK4 firmware, which includes the November 2022 patch. This makes them the first tablets on the market to run Android 13. For now, the build only works in Europe, but it should make its way to the US and Wi-Fi options soon.

Unlike Android 12L, which introduced multitasking improvements to tablets and large-screen devices, Android 13 doesn’t just focus on tablets. One UI 5 includes deeper material integration with more options in the Color palette for more customization, better performance, smoother system animations, and improved OCR capabilities in the Gallery app. Bixby Routines has also been renamed to simply Modes and Routines. You can read about everything new in One UI 5 here.

If you’re in Europe, the One UI 5 update notification should automatically appear on your S8. If not, move on Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to capture the firmware. The full firmware weighs over 1.8GB, so be sure to connect to a Wi-Fi network before starting the update process.

With its excellent software support, Samsung has already set the standard in the Android ecosystem. The company has raised the bar even further by updating all of its premium phones and tablets released in the last two years to the latest Android release.
