Google is introducing a new feature called Navigation rail in its search app for Android tablets. This helps improve the accessibility of certain features in the Google app for larger screens. Currently, only beta testers have access to this feature, as it still needs some cleanup.
Currently, the beta testing version of the Google app is showing this navigation feature. This feature affects the position of some navigation buttons and comes with a slight modification of the app. Some of the benefits of this feature are quick access to navigation buttons and more viewing space in the Google app.
Here’s hoping for a steady rollout of the navigation rail feature in the Google app
Current beta testing version Google the search app displays the navigation buttons in a different position. Previously, these buttons (open, search, and collect) sat at the base of the interface, but not anymore. With the navigation rail feature, these buttons now sit on the left side of the app interface.
This improves accessibility for one-handed use and gives you room to view more content. Apart from this change, the Google search app will remain unchanged in terms of design and layout. Beta testers say the feature will make its way to other Google apps as well Android tablets.
Testers also note that the current user interface of the navigation rail feature needs tweaking. Google may enter Material You Design a search app navigation bar using this feature. Also, the new feature only works when the tablet is in landscape mode, not portrait mode.
Another LLC app that has access to this feature is Google Podcasts. Once this feature is publicly available, the navigation tab at the bottom of these apps will move to the left. There is currently no word on when it will be available for global release.
