After the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of Iran’s moral police and the violent protests that followed, the Iranian women’s basketball team posted a picture on social media without a hijab.

Iran’s women’s basketball team took off their hijabs and posted a picture on Instagram, protesting gender apartheid. They published the photo with the slogan: Woman Life Freedom.

The protests in Iran started after the death of the Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in the power of the ‘moral police’. Amini was arrested for allegedly wearing the “improper” hijab. After her death, women have led protests against Iran’s strict hijab laws, which have posed a major challenge to Islamic rule.

Iranian actress Parida Ghasemi took off her hijab in protest at the symbolic ceremony in the capital of Iran — Tehran. In the video people can be heard applauding and praising Ghasemi’s performance. However, in an Instagram post, the actress said that the hijab fell due to the wind and was not a protest sign. He said there is no “problem with the hijab”.

Last month, Iranian climber Elnaz Rekabi competed without a headscarf and clapping. He later admitted that he had made a mistake and apologized.
