A Singaporean man, now 19, has admitted to giving a 14-year-old girl alcohol and when she lost control, he began sexually assaulting her.
The reason came to light when a mutual friend posted about the incident on Instagram.
At the friend’s urging to issue a public apology, the suspect took part in an Instagram Live event.
When asked by viewers, he admitted to sexually assaulting the girl, according to court documents obtained by Mother.
He pleaded guilty to five charges on Nov. 15, including one count of indecent exposure of a minor under the age of 16.
Other charges include two counts of theft, one count of fraud and one count of driving without a license.
The suspect cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the victim’s identity.
What happened
On September 21, 2021, the high school girl met the accused at a party at a friend’s park.
There were five people at the event.
The accused then mixed an alcoholic drink for the girl, which she drank, and soon after died.
When he was drunk, he vomited in the toilet, soiled his clothes, and then lay on the toilet floor.
The accused then entered the bathroom and proceeded to remove the girl’s pants. When he thought the accused was helping him clean, he did not object.
However, he began to remove her underwear and sexually assaulted her.
He tells her to stop because she’s sorry, but she stops what she’s doing at his second request.
He was so sick of getting up that he fell down.
The accused asked the friend for a new set of clothes and changed the girl into them.
He also told another member of the group that he had sexually assaulted the girl.
Left flat
As she was trying to leave the ground floor, the accused and another friend tried to take the drunken girl down the flight.
Unable to do so, the girl dropped to the top of the steps.
Defendant grabbed the girl by the arms, dragged her down the stairs, and let her go half way down the rest of the stairs.
Some of the group members saw this as a joke and proceeded to take a video of the girl going down the steps.
The team managed to contact the girl’s grandparents, who took her home.
When she regained consciousness the next day, the girl realized she was wearing a different set of clothes.
He sent a message to the suspect to ask him what had happened the previous evening.
The accused admitted that he sexually assaulted her and apologized for doing so.
Accepted on Instagram Live
On November 20, 2021, one of the group members posted a video of the girl slipping down the stairs on Instagram.
He said that the accused sexually assaulted the girl.
He urged the accused to issue a public apology on Instagram after many posts about the incident.
Two days later, the suspect took part in an Instagram Live, a live stream where participants can talk and react, and plan to fix the situation and apologize.
As the issue became more and more popular on social media, some local social media speakers asked to participate in the event, and it was added to Instagram Live, said the public assistant, The Straits Times said.
When fans questioned the suspect, he admitted his wrongdoing.
Then the incident appeared on various social media platforms.
The day after the Instagram Live, the victim filed a police report alleging she was sexually assaulted.
Other fees
The indictment was also filed on two counts of theft.
On one occasion, he stole three bottles of gin worth S$264 from the Cold Store in Takashimaya.
In another, he stole six containers valued at $528 from Cold Storage in Velocity.
He also purchased a car sharing account from a dealer in September 2021 to rent a car despite not having a driver’s license.
He drove the car to pick up his friends.
ST said the deputy public prosecutor urged the judge to call for a remedial training report.
He explained that the suspect had committed many crimes and may need a more structured environment to rehabilitate.
Rehabilitative training is a restorative sentencing option for young offenders under the age of 21 who are found ineligible for probation.
Judge Soh noted his various crimes committed as a child and ordered probation and updated training reports.
The suspect is due back in court on November 22nd for further hearings and will be sentenced on January 12th.
