“I’m not trying to get validation, and I don’t want to,” he added.

Gomez opened up to British developer Shetty about wanting to show an honest side of herself, admitting to fans that she wasn’t perfect and “put together.” He also explained how in the past he felt he had to portray a certain public image.

“I felt like a certain way, so in 2016 I talked about my body and talked about my appearance and talked about ‘oh, everyone sees me as this Disney kid, nobody take me. seriously,'” says Gomez.

“That’s where all the trouble happened to me.”

Shetty, 35, agreed, saying that Gomez seems to be showing her emotional growth in public.

The The Murders Inside the House Star told us that he was very serious about being a good role model.

“One thing I noticed when I started watching the documentary for the first time, I didn’t know that girl. And it broke my heart because I was talking about my body and my appearance and I just hate myself. I felt these feelings,” said Gomez.

“Because I have a younger brother, this great responsibility has been given to me, which has helped me,” he said. “And I can say the same thing about my fans or the people who have grown up with me. I’ve always been about to wake up more for them than for myself, and that’s one thing I’ve learned to be very clear about. . healthy to want to be strong for other people.”

He added: “But I have to know … I have to be strong for myself.”

Gomez spoke out after appearing to disrespect fellow Spears on Instagram in October.

The “Toxic” singer, 40, posted a long-since-deleted caption on the social media site featuring her in a red bikini.

Spears apparently took aim at Gomez for her AMA speech in the caption, and seemed to take offense to what she said.

“Don’t you just love how hard it is for women who stand up to get awards and speak out about their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram???!!!!!” Spears wrote.

“They say ‘This is not something I would do’ but those women are the ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos for sucking and licking ice cream at home!!!! “

The ice cream reference may be a reference to Gomez’s music video with K-pop group Blackpink for the song “Ice Cream.”

Gomez and Blackpink stars—Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—work in an ice cream truck and later eat ice cream from cones in a 2020 video.

Spears added: “These girls have beautiful bodies!!!! Who cares if they show off??? ME!!!

“So, when I see a guy with a big bag smile sucking lollipops, but talking straight to shame other women for showing their bodies, I want to say to those people don’t cheat you suck your lollipop big bucks. dream…”

He finished: “Why do you stand up to girls who treat you like you don’t care?”

Gomez was one of the A-list guests who attended Spears’ nuptials to actor Sam Asghari, 28, in June, and the bride celebrated.

“Thank you Selena for telling me that all she wants is 3 times and I will be happy !!! A very, very, very special wedding !!!” Spears wrote on Instagram in August.

“It’s so cool that he was able to come to me and share his thoughts… Although I’ve been forced to see people the way I want all my life… he’s amazing!!!” by Spears.

“I appreciate ALL the mental health speeches he does for our generation… Two hours of special meetings with representatives… You are a special person, I have to show this picture… I thought he would be happy.”

Newsweek has reached out to representatives for Gomez and Spears for comment.
