Called the Island Bond fund, the scheme’s mission statement says: “The Scottish Government has committed to developing a £5m ($8.9m) Islands Bond fund, which will provide up to to £50,000 each for up to 100 families by 2026, providing financial support for island residents to stay in their community, or to encourage people to move there.
“We are launching the Bond Islands consultation on 2 August 2021, giving our islanders in particular the opportunity to identify the key challenges that a bond may be able to address.”

According to Tyla.comthe payment scheme is already very well received, with applications coming from as far as South America.
It is hoped that, in addition to increasing the local population, it will also encourage newcomers to innovate and establish new businesses in the region, which will boost the local economy.
