QD-OLED TVs, a new panel technology that combines the best features of OLED TVs with the best features of QLED TVs, may be in its infancy – but it’s a huge leap forward.

According to FlatPanelsHD (opens in a new tab) citing South Korea’s Elec, Samsung Display has found a machine that will allow it to make 8K QD-OLED panels.

This machine is called “Jarvis”, and according to its producer, Kateeva, it is a G8.5 inkjet solution for producing high-volume QD-OLED displays. Those displays are the ones that will eventually make their way to 8K TVs and high-resolution monitors.

How soon those will happen is unclear—in fact, Samsung Display has yet to officially announce any production plans for 8K QD-OLED TVs. How do we know if we will get it? Well, you don’t buy a $14.5 billion machine to look good at the factory.
