Ahmedabad, November 10 (IANS): Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and five other senior leaders announced on Wednesday that they will not contest the December Assembly elections.

His announcement came before the BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting began in New Delhi.

Rupani was the first to inform the media that he is not contesting and has informed the state and national leadership of the party that he is not interested in contesting the elections.

Soon after Nitin Patel shared a letter with the media saying that he will not contest the election. In fact, when the party had sent an observer to listen to the aspiring candidates of the Mehsana district, Patel had been present, showing interest in the contest. But, what made him revise his post, he did not reveal.

The other five were ministers in the Rupani government.

Former education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama also said he was not interested in contesting the election, saying, “Enough is enough.” He then clarified that the party has given a lot and now it needs to serve.

Former Agriculture Minister RC Faldu, former Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel, former Power Minister Saurabh Patel and former Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja informed the local media who are not interested in contesting the election.
