Manchester United and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has broken another record, as he became the first person to reach 500 million followers on Instagram.
Ronaldo made headlines last week with his bombshell two-part interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.
The former Real Madrid star was not caught after taking aim at the club’s owners, manager Erik ten Hag, and club legends Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.
Despite the strong criticism of his interview, he has managed to keep up with the students, reaching 500m.
His long-time rival and Argentine superstar Messi is second in the world with 376m.
The two footballers are the only players in the top 10 most followed on Instagram.
Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and NBA star Lebron James are two of the highest-rated players outside of Ronaldo and Messi, although neither is in the top 10.
Ronaldo’s Instagram following shows how much he’s loved, despite recent criticism this year.
This could be Ronaldo’s last chance to win the tournament, after winning the European Championship in 2016.
Portugal will face Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H at the Qatar World Cup.
