Rejecting US claims

Tehran has denied US allegations that Iran was trying to send missile fuel to Yemen. Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said that US claims that Tehran has violated the UN Security Council resolution on Yemen have not been proven. The mission said Tehran remains committed to UNSC resolution 2216 on the ban on arms transfers to Yemen. It noted that the Islamic Republic has never violated the resolution and will never do so. On Tuesday, the US Navy’s fifth warship in the Asia region claimed to have seized 70 tons of missile fuel hidden under fertilizer bags on a ship bound for Yemen from Iran.

Settlement of the Israeli West Bank

The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, emphasized the pledge made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to legalize settlements and outposts in the occupied territories. In a statement, Hamas called the regime’s policy of expansion illegal. He emphasized that Netanyahu’s promise will not give the government and its residents, legitimacy or security in the Palestinian lands. During a meeting with a member of the Knesset far away on Wednesday, Netanyahu said he would legally register most of the settlements and outposts and establish roads passing through the West Bank within two months. Hamas, however, has called on the Palestinian people to resist Israel’s expansion plans at all costs. Netanyahu is currently responsible for forming a new cabinet after his far-right coalition won the recent election. All Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories are illegal under international law.

The Russian-Ukrainian War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says more than 10 million Ukrainians are without electricity, following a wave of Russian protests targeting the country’s electricity infrastructure. Speaking via video link at an economic forum in Singapore, Zelensky hit out at Russia’s new missiles and terrorist attacks. He said Moscow is waging a war on Ukraine’s electricity supply by blowing up critical power plants. On Thursday, Russian missiles hit several Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kiev. Damage to Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure has been so extensive that authorities have imposed blackouts to free up the power grid. Russia has launched six major airstrikes on major Ukrainian cities since early October, mainly targeting energy networks.
