Iran-Iraq relations

Iran says the Iraqi federal government is responsible for preventing any threats from the Arab country’s Kurdistan region. Iran’s foreign minister says that Tehran and Baghdad enjoy good relations and that is why Tehran does not expect to be threatened in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian added that the security of the two neighbors can be guaranteed if they comply with the outcome of the bilateral talks. He said these words on the phone with the foreign minister of Iraq. For his part, Fuad Hussein gave assurances that Baghdad will not allow any threats to come to its neighbors in the world. Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps carried out new drone and missile attacks against terrorist bases in Iraqi Kurdistan. The military says the strike is a response to terrorist activities against Iran.

The killing of a Palestinian journalist

Israel says it will not cooperate with any foreign investigation into the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Israel’s military affairs minister made the comments after reports that the FBI had launched an investigation into the killing of a Palestinian-American journalist. Benny Gantz said the investigation is tantamount to interfering in Israel’s internal affairs and is a big mistake. Abu Akleh was shot dead by Israeli forces while covering an attack on the West Bank city of Jenin in May. His killing sparked international outrage and calls for justice. The Israeli army initially denied responsibility for the killing, but later admitted that one of its soldiers may have shot him. An investigation by the UN and several media organizations concluded that the journalist was indeed killed by Israeli forces.

EU military aid to Kiev

An EU ambassador praises the bloc’s military aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia while saying Moscow has failed in its military efforts. After a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Josep Borrell said the bloc will continue to isolate Russia from the rest of the world by imposing sanctions to cripple the Russian economy. He also claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot defeat the Ukrainian military and is withdrawing his forces to compensate for what Borrell called a military failure. The EU’s foreign policy chief also accused Putin of deliberately increasing human suffering in Ukraine. Borrell also gave figures for the European Union’s aid to Ukraine since the war began in February.
