The team aimed to incorporate sustainable practices when designing the waterfront enclave. Such strategies include the replacement of over one hundred fully mature trees – trees that were cut in other parts of the city and are now thriving in their new homes. Meanwhile, the sewage treatment plant produces enough clean water for horticulture. Gardens and green areas are irrigated with treated water alone without using a single drop of fresh water.

Petal-shaped roofs float over a mirrored ‘water garden’

A 1.3 acre expanse of fan-shaped reflecting pools known as the ‘Water Garden’ separates The Camellias Club from the residential towers. The team notes that when illuminated at night, these pools resemble an ‘inverted starry sky’. Seen from the houses above, seven green roofs designed to symbolize camellia flower petals seem to float in the air. Walkways crisscross the water garden to ensure direct access and intimate interaction with the water.

The team commented: ‘The sense of fluidity and calm is enhanced throughout by the use of beautifully designed materials and organic elements, such as white grained marble with a gentle watercolor effect. Custom-designed furniture ensures comfort blended with a contemporary, avant-garde look.’
