OnePlus has shunned the tablet market for the past decade, but it looks like the company may finally be falling for the forbidden fruit.
According to a forum post on the OnePlus website, the rumors started after OnePlus trademarked the OnePlus Pad in Europe and India in 2021. It’s been quiet since then, but a new stream from Max Jambor shed some light on the potential project.
OnePlus has a tablet in the works.
The launch is planned for next year! #OnePlusPad— Max Jambor (@MaxJmb) November 14, 2022
The tweet suggests that OnePlus could launch the tablet in 2023, which would be interesting as Google also has strong tablet ambitions for next year.
According to other reports, the tablet may run on Android 12L and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with 6GB of RAM. In addition, there will be a large 12.4-inch screen OLED panel. It is expected to offer 45-watt fast charging and a battery size of around 10,000 mAh.
Looking at these rumors from a Canadian perspective, I don’t expect the tablet to launch here. OnePlus usually brings its more interesting devices like the OnePlus TV to markets where it’s more popular. I would expect this tablet to be launched this way.
That said, the OnePlus Watch has already made its way to North America, so the tablet could be the same until the 2020s as the software/hardware ecosystem game heats up.
