IMP/MOREH, Nov 11: Cases of drug smuggling are on the rise in Manipur as security forces bust a large consignment of drugs. 1 lakh WY tablets from Lilong Arapti and 14 soap boxes of brown sugar from Hudengtabhi.
A team of the Imphal East commando busted a drug smuggler along with 1 lakh WY pills worth around Rs 5 crore in the international market from Thongkhong area of ​​Lilong last night.
According to well-placed sources, a team of Imphal East Commando conducted random frisking in Lilong Arapti area in view of the upcoming Sangai 2022 festival.
During the drive, a person coming in a red Maruti car with Manipur registration number was stopped for checking and one million WY tablets were seized, the report said, adding that the driver was identified as one Pundrei-mayum Abdul Hadi alias Amu. (35) s/o (left) Abdul Ghafar Khan Lilong Khao Reibi Maha Leikai, Toubal.
Pundreimayum Abdul Hadi was arrested along with WY tablets, one mobile phone and Rs.360 in the presence of a magistrate.
He was handed over to Bishkek city police.
Meanwhile, 20 Assam Rifles seized 14 brown sugar soap boxes weighing around 640 grams from Hudengthabi yesterday.
The drug was brought by Thang-hopao Kipgen (39) from Churachandpur and he was coming from Moreh in an Eeco van.
According to our correspondent in Moreh, the value of the seized drugs would be around 1.28 million rupees in the international market.
He was handed over to Moreh police station.
