New Delhi: A ring of Shraddha Walker which was given by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawala to another woman he dated after the former’s murder, has been recovered by the Delhi Police, according to sources. The statements of Shraddha’s father, who gave her the ring, and the woman were recorded in this regard.

Sources said that Aftab “behaved normally” while talking to the woman, leaving her no room to suspect that a murder had taken place in the flat. He gave her the ring as she was leaving the house, police said. Police suspect that Aftab cleaned the house thoroughly before bringing the woman to his rented house.

Police also recovered some locks of hair from Mehrauli forest and sent them for forensic match with Shraddha’s father and brother. After the murder, Aftab allegedly cut Shraddha’s hair and threw it across Delhi and Gurgaon.

Police said they found another weapon that could have been used to mutilate the body. The investigating team recently recovered five knives during a search of Aftab’s flat and sent them to the forensic lab. “A few more saws were recovered during the search in the forest areas of Gurgaon and Delhi. They will be sent to FSL for analysis,” said an official.

Meanwhile, on inputs from the Delhi Police, a person who supplied drugs to Aftab was arrested in Surat, sources said. Faizal Momin is also a friend of Aftab. Police suspect that he used to supply drugs to her at his Vasai home.

After receiving the preliminary report of Aftab’s polygraph test, the police are preparing a new questionnaire for drug analysis that will focus on disposal of weapons and body parts. Aftab complained of fever during the polygraph session, but was found fit when doctors in Tihar conducted a medical examination. A jail official said, “He was speaking fluently without coughing or sneezing while interacting with two other inmates and the jail staff.

Police said a preliminary report on analysis of Aftab’s gadgets including phone, camera and laptop revealed that he had deleted some documents, pictures and chats. Efforts are underway to recover deleted content.

On Monday evening, Shraddha’s family, including her father and cousins, met senior officers. Her father, who gave his statement at the Mehrauli police station, was later taken to hospital after feeling unwell. Police again questioned Aftab’s family members about Shraddha’s claim before the Mumbai police in 2020 that her parents were aware that he had beaten her and tried to kill her, an official said.

Sources said a police team deployed in Himachal Pradesh is trying to trace the people the couple came in contact with during their visit to the state.
