LG Display has confirmed that it has switched to OLED panel production at all of its factories in China and South Korea. Reported in FlatpanelsHD, the company says it will move to using EX technology in all its OLED TV displays sometime during Q2 2022. For reference, OLED.EX panels use deuterium, which delivers two main advantages to the panels of conventional OLEDs.
On the other hand, the OLED.EX panels are efficient, which LG claims improves overall performance. On the other hand, the deuterium compounds in these panels allow the LEDs to work more brightly, with up to 30% higher brightness than LG Display’s OLED panels. OLED.EX panels can support smaller bezels as well, with a possible 4 mm bezel around the 65-inch display.
Unfortunately, the adoption of OLED.EX for the production of OLED TVs does not mean that all new Smart TVs will be sold with the new display technology. Instead, LG Display and its partners may take some time before determining stock levels for existing panels. Meanwhile, the change of LG Display should mean that almost all major manufacturers of Smart TVs, bar Samsung, will soon send OLED.EX panels to their OLED range.
