Johan Djourou responded to Granit Xhaka on Instagram with one word after the Arsenal midfielder’s performance for Switzerland against Cameroon on Thursday.
Switzerland’s World Cup campaign came out with a run and a hard-fought victory over Cameroon. Breel Embolo scored once for the country of his birth.
Not a great day for Switzerland. But clearly, a win in the opening game will be a huge boost ahead of the rest of the group’s matches – especially with Brazil lying ahead for the Europeans.
Xhaka played well in the middle of the pitch and brought his Arsenal form to Qatar. However, even he couldn’t hide his frustration – with Swiss outlet 20 Minuten reporting that he was annoyed with some of his teammates during the game.
Xhaka has taken to Instagram to talk about the result. And he seems to have hit the nail on the head, noting that there is a lot of work to be done.
Djourou responded with a brief assessment of Xhaka’s performance…
The Swiss may be a dark horse to go far in the tournament. They were fantastic at Euro 2020, beating France.
And they boast a very strong back. Obviously, Xhaka is a big part of that.
Of course, Brazil is ahead. But there have been many problems in the competitions. And if the Selecao take it easy on them, they will be in trouble again.
Switzerland have one foot in the knockout stages by winning their opening game. And none of the pressure is on them against Brazil.
With Xhaka surprising many Arsenal fans over the past two seasons, he is confident they can pull off an upset.
