A new Instagram feature called ‘notes’ has been adapted by Instagram users to the popular MSN Messenger.

The new ‘notes’ feature gives Instagram users the option to send short status notes to followers [who they follow back] to their list of close friends.

Just like a digital note users can leave it for the audience to see, by focusing on world issues or asking what the purpose of the Instagram notes is.

Notes are limited to 60 characters and like an Instagram story, they disappear after 24 hours.

The feature was first released in some countries in June but was only available in Australia on Wednesday.

‘I woke up in the morning and saw how the new notes were and people were like ‘Oh my god, what is this?’ said Mr. Subritzky.

‘So I put a note and I said ‘the middle finger question mark’ because I just wanted to mix it up a little bit because everyone was so bored.

‘Many developers on Instagram will post pictures that they have completely edited and taken four days ago. I think Instagram needs more credibility because it’s not enough.

‘It reminds me of MSN messenger and the old Facebook posts.’

Many Instagram users said it reminded them of MSN Messenger – a popular messaging platform in the 2000s.

On MSN users there is a picture of a photo with a personal message next to it, which is different from the new feature of Instagram notes.

The picture sharing platform has been known to take the lead from other successful social media platforms.

‘Stories’ were added after the success of Snapchat Stories and the addition of Instagram Videos – short video clips – similar to TikTok.

Instagram Posts are less interactive because users are not notified of them with a push notification, they are stuck in an inbox.

It’s an easy way to stand out in the inbox and not be read as chat, anything more than direct messages.

For Gen-Z Instagram users who don’t have the nostalgia of MSN, many feel the feature is irrelevant.

Tara Aksentijevic, 17, believes the foundation needs to be redone for other reasons, and the new notes section is ‘unnecessary and unnecessary’.

‘They can fix other issues instead of adding new features. I don’t think people use it for a long time,’ Ms Aksentijevic said.

The update comes as Meta – which owns Instagram – laid off more than 11,000 employees via email.
